Be Advised: What Does a Girl Want?
Question/Topic: What Girls Actually Want for Valentine’s Day and How to Properly Ask Them to Be Yours
Dear Reader,
Yes, Valentine’s Day can be annoying if your crush didn’t think to send you a One Love candygram but if you’re single just think about how much love you already have from family and friends, and you won’t feel so lonely. Now that’s out of the way, here’s the Be Advised Team’s guide to a successful Valentine’s Day for all you love birds out there!
If you’re wondering what you should get your girlfriend for Valentine’s Day just follow these simple steps.
1. Buy flowers (they sell them at Trader Joes). I personally hate roses and sunflowers as I find them to generic and my favorite flowers are lilies and hydrangeas. But since it’s Valentine’s Day and I’m not the one you’re shopping for I guess roses will be acceptable for this one time. With that said, if you want to step it up a notch, I recommend buying a bouquet of a variety of pink and red flowers. It shows that you thought about it for at least a minute instead of just going straight for the roses. (If you’re in a serious relationship you should know her favorite flowers already).
2. Make a reservation (or plan to get to the restaurant early if they don’t offer reservations). Girls tend to fall in love through spending time with you unlike guys who fall in love through missing someone. So instead of spending time with her in your Twin XL bed you really should take her out to dinner. Here are a list of suggestions: Boqueria, Max Downtown, Max’s Oyster Bar (this should be a given since oysters are an aphrodisiac), Sparrow, Barcelona Wine Bar. This also gives her a chance to see you slightly dressed up instead of seeing you in the same Katin t-shirt you wear every Saturday.
3. Give a thoughtful gift. I can’t stress this enough. Sure, a box of chocolates is great until the box is empty but it’s a lazy gift to give anyone. I understand you might not want to shell out a few hundred bucks on a nice piece of jewelry but if you want to get her something that will make her think of you here’s what you do. Go to target and for $0.75 print out a picture of the both of you. Then walk over to the Home Décor aisle and pick out a nice frame (make sure it’s the right size for your picture). Go back home and put the picture in the frame and hopefully you remembered to get a gift bag but if you didn’t just hand it to her (she’ll love it no matter what).
If you follow these three simple steps she will remember this Valentine’s Day as one of the best. And trust me she’ll put the picture on her desk or bedside table and think of you every time she looks at it.
Now, here’s how to properly ask a girl to be your valentine. Don’t assume that she’s going to bring it up to you, you’re the guy so you need to take the lead. Second, don’t text her asking, this should at the very least be done over the phone. If you’re nervous about that (man up), just say “hey I was wondering if you’d like to be my valentine this year? I’ve really enjoyed getting to you know and I think it’d be fun if we spent the holiday together”. However, I would recommend not asking your situationship to be your valentine because that’s just leading them on, and nobody wants that.
